To start this off, I want to recall a story on this site that has stayed with me since the day I read it:
Is Comer's probe somehow part of Smirnov's mission? Were the dopes duped?
In this text, it suggests that Alexander Smirnov was a Russian asset working to influence politics, both in Israel and the US. Smirnov reportedly lived in Israel until 2006, but has risen to notoriety for peddling Russian disinformation regarding the Biden family. This is significant, because 2005 marked the Israeli disengagement from Gaza and Hamas was elected shortly after.
Fast forward to today, we’ve seen the results of Russian influence campaigns shifting US politics to the far right to benefit Putin. I am asking readers to consider what the far right influence in Israel is doing to weaken the United States on the world stage and the possibility that Russia has cast a larger net by playing a longer game than was obvious before now.
Now I want to add another layer to the discussion and that is economic influence on the world stage. The first BRICS Summit was held in Russia. In 2023, South Africa invited Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Iran to join their bloc. While South Africa has been applauded by some for their aggressive stance on condemning Israel and criticizing the US support of their ally, it’s important to recognize that BRICS Nations stand to profit from efforts to paint their economic rivals in the G7 Bloc negatively on the world stage.
It would be foolish not to think Russia acted to turn Israeli politics far right after Israel began restoring autonomy to Gaza, knowing the opportunity it would present them. We have seen first hand the Russian meddling in American elections to shift our country to the far right, to make us into a xenophobic society prone to following our worst instincts. It’s their playbook for us, we have to consider that they didn’t just remain narrowly focused on our nation.
So when we observe BRIC nations attacking the US over the conflict in Gaza, please consider that causing the conflict and benefiting from the conflict are two sides of the same coin.
